Get involved
Have you ever wanted to change the world using the technology you so love? Find meaning in your work past making deadlines or profit margins? Here is your chance to make a difference in the developing world with your current technology skills!
Register with Geekcorps
Do you have five (5) or more years experience in technology, or the business of technology? Would you be willing to work with people and innovate with minimal technical equipment in a developing country? Able to commit to four months, working on multiple projects and teaching small groups in a hands-on setting?
If so, please register now to volunteer with Geekcorps.
Not to worry if you can’t volunteer right now. Who can, really? We are always looking for volunteers with the right mix of technology, business, and language skills for our work, which means we might contact you months or a year from now, if ever.
If you’d like to get involved, but don’t want to leave the comforts of home, don’t worry. Keep reading below for other ways you can support Geekcorps’ mission.
Amazon.com Purchases
The easiest way for you to support Geekcorps’ mission is to do your normal Amazon.com shopping starting with this link:
By following that link, Geekcorps will receive Amazon.com credits for each purchase you make today, at no cost to you. Geekcorps is participating in the Amazon Associates program and receives credits when you buy everyday purchases from Amazon.com, at no cost to you. Geekcorps can then use those credits to purchase supplies and equipment for our many programs. If you want to add this link to your own site, please email us for instructions at geekcorps [at] iesc.org.
Direct Donations
You can also donate directly to Geekcorps and while we appreciate donations of any size, we’ve made a short list of costs to give you some relevance to your donation:
- $5 builds a BottleNet
- $20 gives an hour of training to teach a Malian how to build a BottleNet himself
- $100 trains a radio station announcer how to use the Internet to improve his broadcasts
- $300 provides Internet service to a whole community for a month
- $500 sponsors a local university intern for a month to learn new technologies
- $1,000 researches new technology-based small businesses in the developing world
